about

"Black Joy"
Initially written as a freestyle, "Black Joy" is the unapologetic celebration of Black culture and personhood. With all the pain and negativity fueled by recent national events, it's become tiring to continue following the news. Hope and positivity are needed. With a crowd-focused chorus, verse, and outro, "Black Joy" delivers the much-needed energy that's often missed by the media. It's an ernest attempt to uplift a community that's been hindered for far too long. Better days are ahead.

lyrics

Black Girl Magic
Black Boy Joy
Black
Black, Black
Black, Blackity-Black, Black

Ay
I'm just looking for some black joy (black joy)
Hold your head up, young black boy (young black boy)
Gotta get it how you get it
Let's illuminate the black world (black world)
And that's for every young black girl (young black girl)
I got a rhythm for the healing
I'm just looking for some black joy (black joy)
Hold your head up, young black boy (young black boy)
Gotta get it how you get it
Let's illuminate the black world (black world)
And that's for every young black girl (young black girl)
Let's get it, let's get it, let's get it

Ay
You been looking you been looking for some better days (better days)
When you get it out the mud you gotta weather rain (weather rain)
We just tryna catch a win like a weather vane (weather vane)
Maybe then cash it in for some change look
You can hear the cheering from the sideline
You know we gon' shine bright when it come to prime time
Yeah, this the right time
Music be the lifeline
Looking on the bright side
This one for the timeline
We gon' let our light shine, even in the dark places
They can try to throw shade on these dark faces
Issa celebration, being melanated
We got greatness in our makeup
No mistaking our Creator
All praises, going up, elevators
When you feel it in your spirit, let it elevate ya
When you free to be yourself, it's liberation
Self-love and positive affirmation

I'm just looking for some black joy (black joy)
Hold your head up, young black boy (young black boy)
Gotta get it how you get it
Let's illuminate the black world (black world)
And that's for every young black girl (young black girl)
I got a rhythm for the healing
I'm just looking for some black joy (black joy)
Hold your head up, young black boy (young black boy)
Gotta get it how you get it
Let's illuminate the black world (black world)
And that's for every young black girl (young black girl)
Let's get it, let's get it, let's get it

Ay
Black with it, like a all-black fit
Black boys, black girls, black men, black women
Black kings, black queens, black nose, black lips
Black hair, black skin, black bodies, black image
Black stories, black lives, black glory, black pride
Black love, black style, yeah, you know the black vibes
Just another black day in the black life
Feeling all this joy got me glowing no blacklight
We gon' let our light shine, even in the dark places
They can try to throw shade on these dark faces
Issa celebration, being melanated
We got greatness in our makeup
No mistaking our Creator
All praises, going up, elevators
When you feel it in your spirit, let it elevate ya
When you learn to love yourself, it's amazing
So go'n play this song for your education

I'm just looking for some black joy (black joy)
Hold your head up, young black boy (young black boy)
Gotta get it how you get it
Let's illuminate the black world (black world)
And that's for every young black girl (young black girl)
I got a rhythm for the healing
I'm just looking for some black joy (black joy)
Hold your head up, young black boy (young black boy)
Gotta get it how you get it
Let's illuminate the black world (black world)
And that's for every young black girl (young black girl)
Let's get it, let's get it, let's get it (Ay)

Let's get it (Ay), let's get it, let's get it (Ay)
Let's get it (Ay), let's get it, let's get it (Ay)
Let's get it (Ay), let's get it, let's get it (Ay)
Let's get it (Ay)
Let's get it (Ay)
